JONESBORO, Ark. – The Steering Committee for the Jonesboro SportsPlex met with architects and designers from Crafton Tull and Hastings+Chivetta on Thursday to discuss the interior design of the upcoming 200,000-square-foot facility.
Alyssa Jackson, vice president and director of interior design for Hastings+Chivetta, presented various types of tile, carpet, and other surfaces to the committee. While no final decisions were made, the meeting allowed committee members to provide feedback on the direction of the SportsPlex’s interior design.
“The designers and architects have spent a lot of time and energy studying Jonesboro and the existing colors and architecture of our city,” said Craig Rickert, executive director of Jonesboro Advertising & Promotion. “They are using that as inspiration to make sure the SportsPlex isn’t just a new building, but a place that feels like it’s already been a part of Jonesboro.”
In addition to discussing interior surfaces, the committee and design team explored the possibility of incorporating artwork and murals to give the SportsPlex a unique feel.
“There is so much thought and detail going into this project,” Rickert said. “We have one chance to do this and we are making sure we get it right.”
The volunteer committee, led by Kevin Hodges, includes community members with expertise in volleyball, basketball, competitive swimming, and other sports. The next meeting has not yet been scheduled.
Crafton Tull’s architects and engineers are expected to complete the final drawings by July. These will be reviewed by the committee before being released to Nabholz Construction for bidding to determine the project’s final cost.
