With all the former buildings now leveled, construction is ready to begin on a new location for Gish’s Furniture & Amish Heirlooms, which will be built along Route 30 across from Tanger Outlets in East Lampeter Township where there will also be a small, new retail center as well as space for a hotel.
The 6.7-acre property at 2217 Lincoln Highway East is owned by Michael Gish, owner of Gish’s Furniture, which has a store nearby at 2191 Lincoln Highway East. Gish, who is developing the property with his brother, Jon, said the new Gish’s store will be around 15,000 square feet. A retail center planned next to the new store will have 12,000 square feet of leasable space while a pad site in the rear of the property is designed for a 120-room hotel.
The Gish brothers said the property was cleared last fall and they have since been waiting for a highway occupancy permit from the state Department of Transportation. Once that is received, they’ll submit a final land development plan to East Lampeter Township. If all goes as expected, they said construction could begin in the fall with a spring opening of the new Gish’s retail store and the adjacent retail center.
The Gishes said they don’t have any tenants secured yet for the retail center but that there has been a lot of interest for the strip, which they expect to fill up quickly. The brothers also don’t yet have a commitment from someone to build a hotel on the property.
