Fire Breaks Out in Baltana’s Illegal Furniture Market | Chandigarh News

Mohali: A major broke out in an illegally constructed furniture market in Baltana in Zirakpur, causing significant damage to the shops. The fire started around noon and raged for several hours, reducing a dozen shops to ashes. The lack of fire control measures in the market made the task even more difficult for the fire brigade. There were no casualties.
Eyewitnesses said the fire began in one shop and rapidly spread to nearby units, with black smoke and flames reaching the sky. The fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit and spread quickly due to the use of flammable materials in furnitures. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Baltana’s illegal furniture market ravaged by fire

Close to the incident site was a gas agency warehouse, containing hundreds of gas cylinders, which were safely removed by locals. As many as 15 fire tenders from Zirakpur, Derabassi, Panchkula, and Chandigarh reached the spot to control the situation.
Municipal council officials said they would take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
