Bronx mom helping NYCHA families get free furniture gets donation

NEW YORK (PIX11) — In May, PIX11 News met Regina Carter, a NYCHA resident on a mission to for her neighbors. She’s known as “the Furniture Queen.” She has transformed dozens of NYCHA apartments, even the tenant association office.

Update: Carter has a partner in her good deeds now. Mary Townsend is the donation coordinator from Remix Market NYC, a secondhand furniture store that is a professional fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Townsend is giving a truckload of furniture. You can also donate to a GoFundMe page .

Update: They honored the daily segment Monica Makes it Happen with a special award. Dayvon Underdue, who watched PIX11’s stories while serving time in prison, joined the organization and says it’s a group that changed his life.

Famous fashion designer helps out

PIX11 News reporter Monica Morales had front-row seats to a special fashion show for older New Yorkers in the Bronx. After her story, famous fashion designer , who has dressed celebrities like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lauryn Hill and Marcia Gay Harden, wanted to meet the organizers.
