SINKING SPRING, Pa. — Family-owned independent retailer here is closing after 78 years in business.
Founded in 1946 by Arthur J. Fecera and his wife, Inez, the business passed through three generations of family ownership. Owner Connie Fecera plans to join her husband, Artie, in retirement, on a legacy of excellent customer service that set the family business apart for three generations. Furniture promotional sales specialists is handling all going-out-of-business details and events.

Fecera’s Furniture started in a small storefront in Birdsboro, Pa., and new stores were added in Pottstown in 1960, Reading in 1972, and Collegeville in 1992. By 2001, these smaller locations had closed with all attention turned to the new store in Sinking Springs, the largest building owned by Fecera Furniture.
The elder Fecera died in 1972 at age 52, passing the family business to his son, , who carried on the legacy of Fecera’s Furniture along with his wife, Connie. When Artie chose to retire in 2014, Connie continued running the business with the help of her son, Chris.
Under Connie and Artie’s expert leadership, Fecera’s Furniture earned industry-wide recognition including receipt of the 2012 Harry C. Kahn Retailer of the Year award from the Tri-State Home Furnishings Assn.
Fecera’s Furniture, located at 4710 Penn Ave., begins its going-out-of-business sale May 23. Across the 65,000-square-foot store major discounts will be offered on an extensive selection of home furnishings including Howard Miller, Flexsteel, Vaughan Bassett, Bernhardt, Tempur-Pedic, England, Leather Italia, Sealy, Craftmaster and Jackson/Catnapper. The building is also available for purchase.
